Mike Johnson, L&Q ‘Stow’ Director, hastily leaves L&Q‏

MIKE JOHNSON, development director at L&Q for over 10 years and one of the main instigators behind the doomed Walthamstow Stadium project, has hastily left London & Quadrant.

Mike Johnson was the man who informed SOS that Waltham Forest Council encouraged L&Q to buy the site.  We have shown that if they build the site, the scheme will lose approximately £30m of taxpayer subsidised funds. It is unknown whether he was sacked or left voluntarily-however we do know that he left with very little notice given to his staff.

SOS maintains that one of the main collaborators working with L&Q at Waltham Forest Council is Councillor Marie Pye. She was in the housing department, then moved departments as her involvement with the Stow saga was made public. How strange that, days after L&Q’s planning application was passed by the council, Marie Pye was moved back to housing.

With the other senior L&Q employee involved in the Stow, Steve Yianni, also  leaving L&Q, SOS wonder how long before the Chief Executive David Montague does the honourable thing and also resigns.

L&Q made a catastrophic decision to buy a viable greyhound stadium at a vastly inflated price. They did this partly because Waltham Forest Council encouraged them to do it. We have every faith that Mayor Johnson is looking in to this abuse of public funds and trust and acts accordingly.

You might also be interested in recent activities via http://www.peoplebeforeprofit.org.uk concerning Lewisham PBF and L&Q activities of acquiring blocks of council flats, removing tenants then putting flats up for knock-down price auctions. PBP have occupied premises in a bid to have these homes made available for those in housing need within the borough.

Our beloved “socialist” council may wish to take sometime off from congratulating themselves on their disgraceful decision to allow the destruction of the Stow, effectively killing a viable business and hundreds of local jobs in the pursuit of their love affair with L and Q and insistence of gradually destroying local communities with oversaturation by high density developments of flats no one on the waiting list can afford. I suggest they read this well received report by Oliver Wyeman from BISL stating the massive positive impact a thriving leisure and gambling industry can have on economic growth. The report it seems has been well received by MP’s and if certain local councillors were to read, it may just help them expand their thinking and realise the massive error they have made.

Apparently l&q have made a spate of redundancies in the development department!

I have emailed the mayor and would advise anyone reading this to do the same. The stow has been very much missed since its closure and is needed!
