Saveourstow appeared before an all Parliamentary Group in Westminster, as requested by MPs, to outline developments concerning Europe’s leading greyhound stadium in Walthamstow.
The MPs were alarmed by the misuse of public funds, land banking and inappropriate behaviour of the Directors of L&Q Housing Association. Subsequently, the MPs agreed unanimously to back the Saveourstow campaign and will be calling for David Montague of L&Q to explain before the committee the actions of the RSL. The committee outlined their concern that it was their very house that provided funds to L&Q.
MP’s will also be requesting the leader of Waltham Forest Council, Chris Robbins, to attend concerning his actions regarding the site, and his encouragement towards L&Q concerning the sale of the site from the Chandler family. They were also shown letters from residents that the leader has refused to answer.
Ian Lavery (MP for Wansbeck): Stated
‘My All Party Parliamentary Greyhound Group colleagues and I are 100% committed to helping Saveourstow and Bob Morton to bring back greyhound racing to Walthamstow Stadium.
I am amazed and deeply disappointed at L&Q’s three year delay to bring forward a planning application for the site. L&Q is part publicly funded and it is not in the public interest for this inordinate delay to continue.
In contrast, I was excited to hear about Bob’s plans to deliver greyhound racing, affordable housing and other leisure to the site with hundreds of jobs created in line with the London Living Wage. It was also brilliant to hear of the commitment to get the track open for the Olympics if a deal can be done soon.
An invitation is being sent to the Leader of the Council and representatives of L&Q to attend a meeting of the All Party Parliamentary Greyhound Group and explain their views on this issue.’
